Friends of Portree High School

Progress to date (February 2007)

 by Sheelagh Candy, Deputy Head

Morrison Construction has continued to make good progress, often in extreme weather conditions, to ensure that the building works are on target. The new school structure is now in place and is clearly visible from Viewfield road and from Portree. The main steel structure is now complete and the roof is currently being constructed over all parts of the new school. The roof over the three storey teaching wing has been completed and the suspended concrete floors are now in place. Blockwork has also started in the underbuilding.

The excavations for the swimming pool are complete and all timber beams are now in place over the pool ready for the roof covering. Work on the actual pool structure is due to begin very soon.

 What’s next?

  • During the next few months work will be carried out on the external walls of the building to make it weather tight.
